How to Make Windows Folders Load Faster

When you are working and doing many things at the same time on the computer and it’s annoying when you have to wait when web pages open slowly. A similar situation also happens when Windows insists on staying processing our requests and it takes forever to just open a folder.  From our tutorial you will learn how to make windows folders load faster.

However, there are ways to configure our folders so that they open can be opened faster and help us save our time. If you open Windows Explorer and type% userprofile%, for example, Windows will immediately open the folder of the user profile. Also the %windir%, opens the Windows folder.

These shortcuts can be really useful for people who create various folders within each other. Thinking about it, we have prepared a step by step guide that teaches you how to configure your computer so that with a simple command, you are able to open your folders quickly on the Microsoft operating system.

We used Windows 7, but the same procedure can be followed on Windows 7,8 and 8.1.

Step 1

On the Start menu, open the "Control Panel" and select the option "System and Security".

Click on “System”.

Under "System", select "Advanced System Settings" option on the side bar.

A pop-up "System Properties" will appear. On the "Advanced" tab, click the "Environment Variables" button located at the bottom right.

Click the "New" button and click "Variable Name" type the shortcut name that you will use for the folder that will be defined in the "Variable Value" field. In the second field, enter the full directory where that folder is. If you do not know to put the full directory, simply go to the folder in Windows Explorer and copy the path of the directory there.

Step 6

Finally, click "OK" and you're done! You created a shortcut to access the folder. To complete the process, restart your computer, open Windows Explorer and in the directory bar enter the variable name you chose between the percent symbol. Ie in the above example the variable was "downloads" which should be typed % downloads%.

Simply press the "Enter" the folder you selected will open. You can create as many shortcuts you want.
